Slayer Game by SSI/TSR Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: 3DO Internal Memory Released: 1994 Works with: N/A **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Slayer...isn't this one of those Satan worshipping bands? Oh, it's not? It's actaually a Dungeons & Dragons game. Cool, I'll check it out. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Slayer is a Dungeons and Dragons game that is done in a Doom style. What I mean buy that is that this is a first person action game. You walk around killing monsters and collecting keys to find the exit to the dungeons. There are weapon and armor upgrades that you will need to collect and then equip. There are also power-ups and poisons to help and hurt you. This is actually a pretty cool game, but it gets frustrating that you only have a little bit of energy. You will die very quickly unless you use your elixers after every incident. Liked: D&D meets DOOM :) Hated: Too easy to die:( **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: The graphics of Slayer are nicely detailed 2-D sprites. This game looks better than the original Doom, but it's nowhere near as cool looking as Doom 64. The graphics are a little choppy, but it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. The enemies are awesome and look exactly like D&D characters should. Liked: Good graphics. Hated: Choppy animation. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Slayer fearures some spooky music. It's very reminiscent of cheesy Halloween music or of classic horror movies. It fits this game very well. The sound fx are pretty good, but they're not overwhelming. Liked: Spooky music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: Slayer controls nicely. The controls are very easy to learn. The game design is great, but I wish that the game was a little easier. Liked: Great controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Smoother animation, Polygon graphics. RIYL: Doom, Doom 64, Wolfenstein 3D. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Slayer is a cool little game that's just shy of greatness. The game is a little tough, but this game will be appreciated by AD&D fans. Overall, this game deserves a look from AD&D fans or people who are not. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: *** Play Control/Game Design: *** Personal Opinion: *** Total: 15 out of 25 Final Score: 60 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
