Donkey Kong Land 2 Game by Nintendo/Rare Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 4 Megabits Save: 3 saves, Battery Released: 1995, 96 Works with: Any Game Boy. **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: The sequel to the first DKL... what new secrets and suprises does it hold? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Ok... Donkey Kong has been kidnapped! Diddy Kong, along with Dixie Kong, set out to save him. Wha? The first thing you will notice about this game... is that it is exactly like it's SNES counterpart! Same levels... no new enemies... unlike the first one. Dixie's got this hair spin move... it's awesome... you can float for short periods of time. There are "Hero Coins", another gimmick... there is one in each level, and they are well hidden. Hmm... the bonus barrels are switched around from DKC2, so it's not TOTALLY the same experience... you'll have to seek out the new bonus barrels. There are new animals. And, something I really liked... there is an icon in the bottom right corner to show if you have a partner or not. In the old games you would be in the dark most of the time as to if you have your partner to be there if you die. Now... you don't have to ask, "Have I gotten a DK barrel yet?" A little change, but cool. Liked: Little changes here and there. It's almost an exact replica of DKC2... good thing? Bad thing? Hated: You've played one, you've played them all...? **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Once again... this game uses the ACM graphics brilliantly. Try playing this game on an old Game Boy though... it's pretty blurry! Game Boy Color solves this by making the characters stand out from the background with a different color. Liked: ACM... on Game Boy... it's still so cool that it was possible. Hated: Blurring sucks and almost ruins the game! **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The songs don't stray much from the SNES game. Just like the rest of the game. Liked: If you liked those songs, they are back! Hated: Nothing really... I liked the music. Some generic sound FX get used again from the last game... but, whatcha gonna do? ;-) **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The control is still simple. B and A still replace Y and B, and select will still change your current character. Liked: It still retains the SNES feel. Hated: Sometimes the absence of playroom... can get you killed. It's like this a lot with the small screen games... especially the platforms. **************************************************************************** Improve: Hmm... I still want to see these three packed into a color release... RIYL: DKC, Donkey Kong 64. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Hmm... if you've played one... you've played them all, right? This game plays a lot like 1 and 3. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: *** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: **** Total: 20 Final Score: %80 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
