Pokémon Pinball Game by Nintendo Reviewed by Adrock gbcam@hotmail.com Size: 8 Megabits Save: Battery Released: 1999 Works with: Game Boy or Game Boy Color (Rumble!) **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: Combine pinball and the fun of catching and collecting Pokémon... and what do you get? **************************************************************************** Gameplay Descripion: Pinball meets Pikachu! This game will be a lot of fun for fans of the RPG, "Pokémon Red & Blue". You might have heard of it. The object in this game is the same as it's RPG counterpart, catch all 151 Pokémon. (Yes, Mew is in there.) Instead of collecting TM's and running from town to town to search for rare pokémon... you'll use flippers and bumpers. This game has a high frustration factor. It's not enough that you get a high score. To collect all the Pokémon in this game is a tough task. There are two tables (Red and Blue) and many different towns. There is also a Pokédex to keep track of your little darlings. It rumbles. Yeah. It does. There are some bonus games, like one where you have to fight this giant Gengar... all kinds of cool stuff. Only two tables though? Hmph. Yellow and Green should have been thrown in there as well. There isn't really any trading involved either. (Huh?) Liked: Fans of Pinball and Pokémon unite... a cool concept! Hated: Frustration. Don't throw the game... throw the pokéballs. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: You can play it on a Game Boy Color or an original Game Boy. It's fun to see your Pokémon in full color for once on a GBC! :-) It looks OK on a Game Boy Pocket, too. The graphics are detailed enough that you'll feel engaged. The Pokémon are very true to their N64/TV looks. Liked: Detailed. Cute. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is awesome remixed stuff from the original game! For veteran players, you should catch the songs right off the bat! Very atmospheric... your common bumper sounds, stuff like that for Sound FX. Liked: Remixes from the RPG games! Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: I didn't really like the key config at first... but it's changeable! Which is a big plus. I was kind of discouraged by the very little room to play that there was... the multi-layered levels of Kirby's Pinball Land seemed better. Less playroom means less control of the ball... and no control leads to frustration. Liked: You can change the keys around! Hated: Little Play-Room. **************************************************************************** Improve: More tables! Less frustration! Skill levels, for more comfort for younger players! RIYL: Kirby's Pinball Land, Revenge of the Gator. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Like Pokémon? And pinball! You found a new love! This game is perfect for you. If you don't like pinball... but like Pokémon... there should still be some fun in this for you. Just watch out for the frustration level! It's a little up there in difficulty... older kids might get more out of this one... maybe over the age of 9 or 10. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: **** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: **** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 23 Final Score: %92 **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: How to catch Mew.
