Power Stone System by Capcom Review by BigBadBar kummel@erols.com Released 9-9-99 **************************************************************************** Opening Side Remarks: I loved the japanese one and I couldn't get my hands on the US version **************************************************************************** Gameplay: Well, This is a damn good fighting game. You can go anywhere, full 360o degrees, unlike Tekken, you don't have to hit a strafe button. You use a button to jump. Also, there is no blocking. You just dodge or be lucky enough to get a shield. Talking about weapons, there is a lot! You can use scenario weapons, like chairs, tables, pots and all kinds of stuff. You can also get alternative weapons like flamethrower, bazooka, hammer and others. They all add to the experience. The scenarios are great. You can bounce off walls, hang from the ceiling or hold on to the pillar. Another plus. The characters kick ass and after you play for a while the fact that there are only 10 doesn't bother you anymore. It doesn't hurt the replay value. Mostly because they are tottally different. No Ryu and Ken. No Scorpion and Sub-zero (They look alike.) They are totally different. Also, the endings kick ass. They're not cheap ass. They are very detailed. This game is for both novices and expert gamers. You can time everything you do. You can also clobber him to death. So... why doesn't this game get a 5 stars on gameplay? Well, first, the single player is rather easy. I've finished with all characters within 48 hours of first getting this game. Also, the infernally frustrating Valgas. DAMN! That son of a bitch is so f*cking annoying. Super Valgas isn't that bad, but the first one is a major pain in the ass. The quest of getting extras is too easy. There is also some slowdown. Valga's special slows everything down. Super Valgas may cause some trouble also.... Whoa, this game sounds sucky now, doesn't it? Maybe, but you HAVE TO play 2-player mode. I mean, this game is the best 2-player game I've played. But only if both of you know how to play. 2 experts playing is heaven on a videogame. You'll end up playing all day. Liked: Originality, 2-player mode Hated: Horrid boss, overly easy one-player quest and slowdown. **************************************************************************** Graphics: This game was supposed to look like an anime cartoon. If you hate anime, you'll still like this. But I love graphics on anime cartoons. It definately looks like a cartoon, but with 360o degree control. Polygons are VERY small. You can barely see them. But this isn't Soul Calibur. Also, the arenas look marvelous, each one detailed to the extremest of the extreme. Animation is beautiful. They are very fluid, and makes all other fighters look stiffy. Liked: Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Sound: The music is very inspired. The sound effects are great. They all are very cool. The only problem is the lack of English voices. People say "Oh, leave the japanese voices, American games with voice suck." Well, does it matter that japanese have good voice acting and we can't understand anything about what the hell he is saying? Liked: Music and Sound effects Hated: Voice **************************************************************************** Controls: Although Robby said the controls were too simplistic, I totally disagree. The more simple, the better. I'm tired of spending 20 seconds executing a move that will never hit the opponent. Here, you just use strategy. Oh well. Kick ass response, awesome control. Liked:Everything Hated: Nothing **************************************************************************** Improve: 4-player tag-team and free for all deathmatch! DAMN! Makes me feel fuzzy just to think about it. More characters, deeper 1-player quest, and take that Valgas and send him to the bowels of hell! **************************************************************************** Final Words: Hooray for throwing furniture! **************************************************************************** Score Graphics:***** Sound:**** Control: ***** Gameplay: **** Personal opinion: ***** Final Score: 92% **************************************************************************** My favorite character is and always will be Jack, The mummy-spider burglar guy. His laughter brings a chill to my spine. Also, Rogue has the best ending. That's it. Did you know this was the first game to show up on Naomi board?
