Sega Bass Fishing Game by Sega Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: VMU-50 Blocks Released: 1999 Works with: VMU, Jump Pack, Fishing Controller **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: In case you didn't know it, Sega Bass Fishing is the American version of Get Bass. This review is based on using the regular Dreamcast controller. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Sega Bass Fishing is the best fishing game ever. I really like this game. It is somewhat simple, but if you like catching fish, then this game is for you. There are 3 modes of play-Arcade, Original, and Practice. Arcade Mode is 4 levels of fishing where you fish until you meet certain requirements such as catching 11 pounds of fish on the first level. The next level may require you to catch 13 lbs. of fish. You have as much time as you need to meet the requirements. You start out with 2 minutes, but if you run out of time, you continue and you have 2 more minutes and all of the fish that you've already caught. Original Mode is a series of bass fishing tournaments. You fish in a series of 4 tournaments with differing rules which help keep this mode fresh. Practice mode is basically a free fishing mode. It's much like just going out on the local lake and trying to catch fish. This mode is very relaxing and is just as fun as the other modes. The actual gameplay is very cool. Fighting fish is extremely reallistic and is handled nicely. My only complaint is that you don't really have any control of where your boat goes. You pick the location and the casting spot, but that's all. Besides that, this game is nearly perfect. Liked: 3 Excellent modes of play. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: Sega Bass Fishing features some of the most amazing looking fish ever seen in a videogame. I swear they look just like the real thing. The fisherman and woman don't look quite so good. They show polygon joints, but other than that, they look great. The environments are beautiful and look extremely reallistic. The main complaint is that there is a lot of slowdown. Since this doesn't hinder the gameplay, it's not a big deal. Liked: Amazing fish. Hated: Slowdown. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: SBF has some pretty cool music. It fits the game well and it's not annoying. The sound fx are perfect and really sound like splashes and such. There is also a silly announcer who tells you when to turn the rod left or to pull the rod up. He also tells you whena fish is near. I like him, but a lot of people won't. Liked: Great sound fx. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: SBF has some perfect controls. They are simple, but they're not limiting. The analog shoulder buttons work perfectly as the reeling controls. The game design is great and this game just begs to be played over and over and over.(Sorry, I'll go take a cold shower now;) Liked: Perfect controls and game design. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: No more slowdown. RIYL: Just buy this game. It is heads and shoulders above any other fishing game ever. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Just take the $39.99 and go buy this game now! I swear it is worth it and it is just simply an awesome game! **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 24 out of 25 Final Score: 100 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
