Soul Calibur Game by Namco Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: VMU-8 pages(I think) Released: 9-9-99 Works with: VMU, Jump Pack, Arcade Stick **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I had seen screenshots of this game and was very impressed. I'm not a big fan of complicated fighters, though, so I initially shied away from this game. I decided to buy this game because it was only $39.99. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: I can sum this game up in one line-Soul Calibur is the greatest fighting game ever made! I swear! This game is just perfect. The controls are simple, yet their not limited. There are lots of game modes to play and there are plenty of fighters. There are lots of things to unlock. You start out with like 7 fighters and you need to open up like 9 more. There are also art cards and other hidden things to unlock. The gameplay is just awesome. There are only 3 attack buttons and that's all you really need. The modes range from Arcade to Mission to Practice and Survival. The Mission Mode is the coolest one of all. In Mission Mode you will fight in strange fights. Some are 3 on 1 while some have rabid rats that will bite you. This is really cool and it just adds up to an excellent package. The fighting action is perfect and is just so balanced that it is amazing. Liked: Amazing gameplay. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: This shouldn't take long. This game has the best graphics of any game ever made. The fighters are made of polygons, but their not blocky at all. Some of the backgrounds are equally amazing, especially the raft that's going up the river. Liked: Perfect graphics! Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: The music is excellent. It sounds kinda like classical music. This fits this game very well. The sound fx are extremely cool expecially the sword clanging sounds. The characters have real voices that are in synch with the on-screen graphics. This is an excellent touch. One small gripe is that the characters all speak in Japanese with English subtitles. It would be cool if you could have the voices in English or Japanese. Liked: Awesome sound fx. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls are perfect. There are 3 attack buttons and one block/parry button. This is just a perfect setup. The game design is awesome and this game is just perfect. Liked: Perfect controls. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Improve: Add CG Endings. RIYL: Virtua Fighter series. **************************************************************************** Final Words: Soul Calibur is an awesome game that is well worth the $39.99 purchase price. Even if you're not a big fan of fighters(like me) you will still like this game. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: ***** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: ***** Play Control/Game Design: ***** Personal Opinion: ***** Total: 25 out of 25 Final Score: 100 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
