TNN Motorsports Hardcore Heat Game by ASC Games/CRI Reviewed by Robby Cox koi@magicnet.net Save: VMU Released: 1999 Works with: Jump Pack(Strangely enough this isn't listed on the package), VMU **************************************************************************** Opening Snide Remarks: I wanted this game when it was released and then I saw it at Wal-Mart for $44.96, so I broke down and bought it. **************************************************************************** Gameplay Description: Hardcore Heat is a rather simple racing game. You race in 3 different series of races to try to place first. You get to move on as long as you finish the series in the allotted spots. That is cool that you you don't have to win each race. The gameplay itself is somewhat simple and somewhat sucky. The cars control okay, but they handle like crap. Sometimes your car won't turn and sometimes it turns really good. Sometimes your car just slides out of control. This is one of those racing games that requires lots of braking, which I think is a good thing. The biggest problem with this game is that it is really easy of Normal, it's really easy on Hard, but it's almost impossible on Expert. After you lose over and over, it's tough to even bother playing anymore. Liked: Good driving engine. Hated: Expert's too hard. **************************************************************************** Graphics Description: HH looks great. The dirt and mud fx are awesome. The vehicles are very detailed and look excellent. The replay mode looks extremely nice and you can control the camera angles during the replay. This is a really cool feature. The game moves pretty good even with lots of vehicles on screen at the same time. Liked: Awesome dirt fx and replays. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Sound/Music Description: Some people will hate this game's music. I, on the other hand, think that it is awesome. The song that plays on the game select screen is awesome and I could listen to it forever. The other songs are almost as good. It kinda sounds like Sega Metal. You know, that kinda poppy metal stuff that populates most of Sega's games. The sound fx are good, but you won't wet your pants or anything. Liked: Excellent music. Hated: Nothing. **************************************************************************** Play Control/Game Design: The controls are for the most part good. Sometimes, your vehicle just doesn't repond correctly. Sometimes, you will make a turn and your car just won't accelerate like it should. This isn't a big problem in Normal & Hard Modes, but they CPU cars will destroy you in Expert Mode. Liked: Good controls for the most part. Hated: CPU cars passing me for no reason. **************************************************************************** Improve: If the controls are more consistent, then the sequel might just be awesome. RIYL: Sega Rally 2 **************************************************************************** Final Words: This game is worth picking up if you love racing games, but it's not the greatest. If you're only going to purchase one racing game this year, wait on Sega Rally 2. This game is only worth picking up if you love Offroad racing or need every racing game on the planet. **************************************************************************** Score Gameplay: *** Graphics: ***** Sound/Music: **** Play Control/Game Design: ** Personal Opinion: ** Total: 16 out of 25 Final Score: 64 % **************************************************************************** Currently Known Codes: None.
